Lessons, music and sports mark Langpangkong conference

Dimapur, Jan. 10 (EMN): The Langpangkong Students’ Conference (LKM) continued on Thursday in Mokokchung district with various cultural events besides sports. The media cell of the organisers,the LKM,  issued a press release offering updates about the event.

T Repala Jamir, president of the Langpangkong Watsu Union exhorted the students’ community about how their ancestors earned their names through hard work. She encouraged the students to earn their names the way Indian sportspersons Hima Das and Mary Kom have done.

Legislator Amenba Yaden attended the program and addressed the event too, the updates stated. He was said to have talked about the importance of sports as an alternative for unemployment. He spoke about taking a major part in India’s vision of creating a “sports nation.”

Another speaker of the program was Senti Ao, secretary for Fishery and Aquatic Resources. He spoke about ‘how our ancestors faced trouble and stood for unity,’ the updates stated. He emphasized on the importance of clean elections and about the urgent need for ‘social connection for advancement of all economic sectors from the grassroots; the importance of self-help groups in economic activities for both personal livelihood and survival.

During the event, the crowd was treated to music performances by entertainers such as Alica from Longkong and Red Neck from Tuli town, and from Lord of Rocks.

In the sporting segment of the conference, in football, defending champion Merangkong outplayed Changtongya 3-0 making them the first team to reach the semi-finals while Yaongyimsen booked their semi-final berth beating Chakpa by penalty after the match ended in draw.

In another match, Yaongyimti beat Unger 3-0 while the last match of the evening ended with Chuchuyimlang beating Kangtsung 2-1.

In volleyball for men, an entertaining and competitive match between Changtongya and Changtongyayimsen saw the former as the champion of the LKM Volleyball 2019. Merangkong emerged the champions in the women volleyball segment by beating Salulamang in the final, the organisers informed.
