Legal services ride Hornbill to drive law competence

The Nagaland State Legal Services’ Authority (NSLSA) inaugurated a legal awareness “stall” for a 10-day ‘legal awareness festa’ on the occasion of the Hornbill Festival at the Kisama village in Kohima.
In her address, member secretary of the NSLSA Nino Iralu highlighted the activities of the agency and talked about recent achievements.
During the event, NK Keny, a paralegal volunteer, was conferred with the award of Best Para Legal Volunteer. She said if all the members of the authority, the panel lawyers and the paralegal volunteers give their efforts, the very purpose of setting up the Legal Services Authority, which is to deliver justice to the poor and needy, would be achieved.
Mayang Lima, former member secretary of the agency, gave a short speech. He stressed on the point that the foremost thing for which the Legal Services Authority was set up was to deliver justice and to provide free legal assistance to the marginalized sectors, to reach them to their door step and make justice available to them. He concluded by saying,
if more co-ordination are forwarded by all the concerned sections then it is no doubt that the result will be trickled down to the marginalized section of the society which is access to justice for all, he said.
Justice AK Goswami, judge of Gauhati High Court also delivered a short speech before the opening of the stall. He emphasized to take stock of the situation that is prevalent in the area. He also told that lots of good works are being done by the Legal Services Authority as is evident through the typical emphasis like in the case of NK Keny.
He also urged the panel lawyers that being a part of the Legal Services Authority they should put effort in achieving great stride for which the Legal Services Authority Act was enacted and as such Hornbill Festival at Kisama village is one of the right platform to reach the masses which is the ultimate object of our endeavor.
This was followed by short street play on the topic, “Human Rights”, which was performed by the students of Kohima Law College, Nagaland’.
During the day, it witnessed a lot of eager beneficiaries who visited the Legal Awareness Stall, whereby various services like issuing of legal literacy and awareness booklets and pamphlets, legal counseling, Movies, videos on legal awareness etc were rendered free to them. Among the beneficiaries included bureaucrats, ministers, IPS officers, laymen, students, homemakers, farmers.
The Nagaland Legal Services Authority will continue to render free services in the form of issuing free booklets, pamphlets , legal counseling, street plays with the purpose of educating the general masses throughout the Hornbill Festival, 2015.
