Legal service camps: An interface to get formality jobs done

Dimapur, Jan. 19 (EMN): A mega legal services camp was conducted at the local ground of Wokha on January 19. The camp was organized by the Nagaland State Services Authority and its district unit in collaboration with the district administration, government departments, stakeholders and nongovernmental organisations.

Justice N Kotiswar Singh, judge of Gauhati High Court, also executive chairman of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority addressed the gathering. Updates on Saturday from the government bulletin DIPR informed about the event.

In his address to the event, Singh said that the legal services authority has an objective to reach out to the poor and the needy. It conducts services camps so that the targeted sections of the society can avail various welfare measures and beneficial schemes and policies of the government. Through such camps the public are educated about their rights and entitlements so that they can avail maximum benefit from government schemes, the updates stated.

Singh explained that apart from giving legal aid, the legal services authority is there to help people in giving necessary information regarding scheme benefits. He called upon the public to get help from the services establishment without hesitation.

The deputy commissioner of Wokha district, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon also spoke during the camp. He said that the people need to know their rights and entitlements, and about the government schemes to ensure that the benefit of schemes are properly implemented. For that reason, he said, knowing such information is very important.

The deputy commissioner appealed to the people to learn and seek assistance during the camps so that targeted sections of the people get their due share of benefits from government schemes and policies.

Likewise, he urged village councils to actively participate in spreading publicity across the grassroots levels to ensure proper planning and formulations of schemes and policies.

During the camp, information and assistance booths of the legal services set up at the camp offered free legal advice and services such as filling of forms, drafting affidavits etc. Volunteers at the booths assisted senior citizens, differently-able persons and daily wage earners in registering for various governmental sponsored benefits and schemes.

Further, Schedule Tribe certificates and Birth Certificates were filled or issued during the camp. Beside many government departments including banks opened stalls to educate the public about schemes and policies.

The purpose of the camp was to educate the public about free legal assistance particularly to the marginalize sections of the society. The public also got the opportunity to interact with several government departments, and banks and received information about various welfare programs of the government.
