Large quantity of drugs seized

A Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, MARCH 11 A 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with involvement in smuggle of the banned cough syrup Elturex (codeine) into Imphal, by the Narcotics Cell of Excise department, Dimapur. The woman, Raham Tuliba, has been accused of smuggling 1861 bottles of the banned syrup. According to Excise officials, the actual seizure was made at the inter-state checkpoint at Khuzama on Thursday at around 4 pm when they caught a truck (NL-07-A-4189) with the consignment. Subsequently, the driver of the truck was arrested and brought to Dimapur. Following interrogations, the Excise authorities learnt that the consignment was loaded from Lahorijan in Assam, and that it belonged to a woman. Accordingly, they plotted a trick and trapped the accused by waylaying her. The cost of the seized consignment, in Imphal market, has been estimated at Rs 2 lakhs. The woman has been booked under section 13 and 27 of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
