Landowners threaten to halt railway work

Dimapur, Oct. 23 (EMN): With no official response even after lapsed of two months suspension of the complete stoppage of the ongoing railway works, the affected villages’ GBs and landowners have decided to serves a seven-day ultimatum on October 24 to expedite necessary action for review on discrepancies in the rates and resolve the matter so that the progress of the work does not get hampered.
The decision to serve an ultimatum was taken in an emergency meeting of the landowners on October 22 at Shokhuvi village. The house resolved that the landowners would resume the complete stoppage of the work with effect from November 1 indefinitely if the concerned authority fails to comply with its demand. It added that any untoward incident(s) arising out of the stoppage of the work would be solely held responsible by the government.
A joint press statement issued by GB Pimla Dohoi Sema, GB Dhansiripar Dejiraj Girisa, Chairman of Razaphe Basa KK Rio, GB Zutovi Victo Sema, GB Sukhovi Vekuto, and GB Khemnok P Shingyu Khiamnungan stated that on the basis of the outcome of the joint meeting of Rail authority, district authority and affected villages’ GBs and landowners held on August 18 in the DC’s office, the affected landowners of the Rail project, Nagaland, the six villages viz. Dhansiripar, Pimla, Zutovi, Khemnok, Razaphe Basa and Shokhuvi, suspended the protest stoppage of the work of the Nagaland rail project with effect from August 19 to give time to the authority for review of the matter of railway compensation paid to the beneficiaries.
However, despite favourable outcome of the meeting and communication of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, to the higher ups followed by declared assurance of the chief minister during his tour to Mhaikam village rostrum/Gate inauguration, there has not been any official response even after more than two months of the suspension of the complete stoppage of the ongoing works.
Observing that nothing has been done as promised and forwarded, the affected landowners have decided to serve a seven-day ultimatum on the government failing which resolved to resume the complete stoppage of with work with effect from November 1.
