The Kyong women community of Dimapur district has called for action against illegal immigrants, specifically Bangladeshi nationals, in the state whose growing influence is starting to threaten the Naga society.
The Lotha Eloe Ekhung of Dimapur on Monday said the recent incident in Dimapur when an illegal immigrant, a shopkeeper by the name of Abdul Basit brazenly threatened a local church couple with statements alluding to death and killing. The Naga people are no safer in their own home, the women organization stated in a press release issued on Monday. On September 2, Pastor James Ngullie of Dunamis Life Church of Burma Camp and his wife were reportedly threatened by the accused Abdul Basit in the city’s New Market.
“The accusation made by Pastor James Ngullie was, they were threatened by the shopkeeper saying ‘they don’t beat people, they kill them.’ We often show our empathy as Christian and this is how they treat us. There are so many killings and injustice done to our brothers and sisters and yet we tend to forgive and forget,” the women organization stated.
The organization has called upon the Nagas to see this as an ‘awakening’ for the people and the land. Condemning the incident the women organization has demanded ‘total action against the shopkeeper. “As said by the pastor, we are not safe even at our own homes being our home land. We must voice out and work together to fight against social crimes and bring justice,” the women organization stated.
