KPLT blames state and central govts. for taking no initiative

Diphu, May 16 (EMN): The Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT), an armed organisation in Karbi Anglong, has blamed the central as well as state government for taking no initiative for negotiation. They demanded that they should invite for a talk to solve the issues of KPLT, the general secretary of the organisation, Loti Chari Kangtang Bey, told media persons at the KPLT designated camp in Diphu on Wednesday May 16.

“KPLT has its aims and objectives to fulfil the autonomous state under Article 244 (A) of the constitution. The government has sent its representatives asking us to come over ground and start negotiation through talks and with this assurance the KPLT has come over ground on October 20 2016. But now, we came to know that both central and state governments are taking no interest on us. No initiative has been taken from the government side to invite us for talks,” said Bey.

“Maybe the government has other plans by taking the delaying tactics to solve the problems of the KPLT,” said Bey.

Publicity Secretary SR Krongjang said, “At first government was providing ration, clothes, blankets, and other requirement for the designated camp. But now, the camp inmates of the KPLT cadres have no ration, clothes, water facility and other needs.”

Bey said that the organisation has to be reshuffled as the previous Chairman Donri Kramsa and General Secretary Vojaru Hanjang were inactive and did not take any initiative with the government for talks. In order to have better functioning in the organisation, reshuffle was made for the post of chairman and general secretary. Vice Chairman Risim Senar Pator is the new chairman and him as the new general secretary.

About the news that appeared in few local dailies from Diphu town, stating that “seven cadres of KPLT have fled from the organisation,” Bey clarified that it is not true. “It is to malign the image of the KPLT that some vested interest persons have done it,” he reassured.

At present, the total strength of the cadres is 209 with two designated camps at 5th Mile in Diphu and another at Kolonga in West Karbi Anglong. “At Diphu camp, there are around 70 cadres,” Bey stated.

Defense Secretary Rijak Dera said, “When the KPLT came over ground the government has assured us full protection. But it is seen that the army and police in the name of search operation for other armed organisations and anti-social elements they are apprehending our men, which is injustice. I urged the state and central government not to allow their government machineries to arrest our cadres from anywhere by levelling falls charges.”
