Dimapur, Nov. 16 (EMN): The Konyak Union on Friday urged New Delhi to reciprocate to the overture of peace relayed by the NSCN (K) group lead by Khango Konyak.

A statement from the organisation contended that the government of India should ‘duly acknowledge’ the peace offering from the group and reciprocate “without further delay.”

While maintaining that the union understands the “political sentiments” of India and Myanmar, it requested the two countries to “reciprocate the same” by way of honouring the sentiments, traditional and customary system of the people concerned.

“The Konyak Union also extend its utmost appreciation to all the NPGs, the Assam Rifles posted within its customary jurisdiction for abstaining from any disruptive act but instead paving its hearts out for peace as aspired by all. Peace being the essence for all humanity and for all progress, it should be upholded (sic) by every soul so as to pave way for a lasting and inclusive solution that is acceptable to one and all. Such noble attitude and environment should be maintained and continued even in days to come,” the statement read.

The union also asked the Naga groups, the security forces and the public to “uphold and respect people’s sentiment.” According to the union, “…the defined Konyak customary jurisdiction should be at total peace and nothing more.”
