Kohima’s Gorkha community pays tribute to Bhanu Acharya

KOHIMA, JULY 13: Commemorating the 202nd birth anniversary of ‘Aadi Kavi Bhanu Acharya”, the Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha, Kohima (GSKSK) organized a program on Wednesday at the Gorkha Panchayat Hall at Chandmari in Kohima town.
Kamal Khanal, assistant general manager of the State Bank of India, Kohima main branch, attended the event as the chief guest. Gopal Karki Chettri, a hotelier and builder in Guwahati was the guest of honor.
The programme started off with paying homage to the great man by unveiling and garlanding ‘Aadi Kavi Bhanu Acharya” and late Gorkha Hari Rai.
Giving a brief life sketch of Aadi Kavi Bhanu Acharya, DN Pradhan, (GSKSK) literacy general secretary said Bhanubhakta Acharya was a Nepalese poet and writer who translated the great epic Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali language.
Pradhan also said that Acharya has played a crucial role to bring Nepali literature from obscurity to limelight. He is regarded as the father figure of Nepali literature who worked hard and uplifted Nepali literature to a respectable platform, whose contribution to the genre is of supreme historical importance not only for his pioneering ability to make Nepali a living language, but also the craft of prose-poetry writing with a degree of impeccable success.
During the programme meritorious student of HSLC, HSSLC and degree students were felicitated, and prizes given away to the winners of the drawing and poem competition held earlier on July 10.
Ramayan Path was recited by Val Vikash, student of Sai Sewa Samiti, Kohima and a poem was also recited by Tikaram, Seva general secretary, while short speeches were delivered by Gayatri Devi, Patron GSKSK and Santu Thapa, president Gorkha Public Panchayat, Kohima.
A similar programme was also held at State Academy Hall, Kohima organized by the North Eastern Region Service Nepali Association, Kohima (NERSNAK) with Kamal Khanal, Assistant General Manager, SBI, Kohima main branch and Rukman Khanal, former NERSNA president as the chief guest and guest of honor respectively.
In honor of Aadi Kavi Bhanu Acharya, the great literature of the Nepalese, successful students of HSLC and HSSLC students from the community were felicitated for their outstanding performances, and giving away of the ‘Balakrishna Samaj Sewa Award by NERSNA president.
