Kohima Science College inks MoU with Thailand varsity

Kohima Science College, Jotsoma (Autonomous) Monday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Surindra Rajabhat University, (SRRU), Thailand.
The historic MoU was signed by the principal of KSC, Jotsoma, Dr. I. Anungla Aier and acting president of SSRU Dr. Acharya Phanurat, in the presence of Deo Nukhu, Parliamentary Secretary for Higher Education, Government of Nagaland and Tharadol Thongruang, Minister Counsellor, Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi, at the conference hall of Regional Centre for Excellence of Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma.
The MoU declared a formal understanding of cooperation and friendship which intended towards further academic objective of each institution and further to promote better understanding between the faculty and students of both KSC, Jotsoma and SRRU, Thailand.
As per the agreement of the MoU, the two institutions will proceed to implement in various areas subjected to availability of funds and personnel and approval of competent authority of KSC, Jotsoma and SRRU, through various activities.
The two institutions will collaborate to initiate on joint cultural exchange programmes, exchange of faculty members, students, joint research activities, participation in seminars and academic meetings, exchange of academic materials and other information, short term academic programmes and exchange of administrative managers/coordinators.
The areas of collaboration will include, subject to mutual consent, any programme offered at either institution as felt desirable and feasible on either side and that both parties can contribute to fostering and development of cooperative relationship between the two institutions.
The assistance to be provided by each of the contracting parties will be teaching, research exchange of faculty and students and staff development as deemed beneficial by the two institutions. The collaboration will initially be focused on, but not limited to, joint cultural programmes, language, literature and cultural studies and natural science.

The MoU shall remain in force for a period of three years from the date of signing by the appropriate officials of the two institutions and it may be further extended or amended with the written agreement of both parties and the MoU may be terminated by either party subject to the delivery of month advance notice, in writing.
At KSC, Jotsoma, the office of the principal will oversee the implementation of the MoU, while at SRRU, the Asia Studies institute will oversee the implementation of the MoU. According to the MoU, both parties understand that all financial arrangements will have to be negotiated and will depend on the availability of funds.
It may be noted that SRRU, Thailand, offers a wide range of courses, up to the master level. Emphasis is on tourism (a local industry), and business studies, however, there is a full range of curricula, including teacher education, management, computers, and of course English studies. Jotsoma in her address thanked SRRU for coming forward to ink the MoU.
SRRU acting president Dr. Achara Phanurat in her brief address acknowledged KSC, Jotsoma for entering into the MoU with SRRU. She extended the invitation to Kohima Science College to visit the university in the near future while she, one behalf of SRRU, assured to render its best to fulfill the signed MoU.
Parliamentary Secretary for Higher Education, Deo Nukhu acknowledged both the institutions for entering into the MoU. Nukhu expressed hope that the MoU would help and at the same time promote both the institutions towards achieving greater heights.
Mention be made that Monday’s MoU is an outcome of the Handshake Concert held at Bangkok in 2012.
The acting president of SRRU is accompanied by seven faculty and 21 students. The team will attend the Hornbill Festival on day-one and will depart for home on December 2.
The programme was also attended by Rev Haizotuo Munshi, founding member of Kohima Science College, Leaders of Jotsoma village, government officials, among others.
The programme was chaired Wenitso kapfo, general secretary of Rattle & Hum Music Society, while a brief profile (PPT) of KSC was delivered by KSC assistant prof. Dr. Sanjay Sharma. The vote of thanks was tendered by assistant prof. Dr Lily Sema.
