KOHIMA, OCTOBER 22: Celebrating its 25th anniversary (1991-2016), the Phom Students’ Union Kohima (PSUK) paid rich tribute to its pioneers and the founders of the union who have immensely contributed to the growth of the union.
The programme held at State Academy Hall was graced by Parliamentary Secretary of Land Resources Development & Excise, BS Nganlang, as the chief guest. He also released the silver jubilee souvenir.
Addressing the gathering, Nganlang reminisced that there were only 10-15 students back in the 90s. He expressed happiness that number of students has increased to 701 including 365 boys and 336 girls.
Acknowledging the pioneers for their selfless service for the welfare of the Phom students of Kohima, Nganlang expressed hope the union will grow fruitfully with God and enable the students to achieve their aspired goals.
Also exhorting the gathering, president of Phom Union Kohima, Dr. MC Longai Phom acknowledged the contributions of the founders saying, ‘today we live to witness their contribution under various capacities and circumstances.’While stating that it is important to rest and bask with the past laurels, he also reminded the members to realise the need to be in tune with changing times by remaining alert at all times and not drown in complacency.
‘Brave are the ones who get out of their comfort zones,’ said Phom and maintained that unless one comes out a person will never know if he will succeed or lose. He urged the students to do away with complacency and evaluate their capabilities thoroughly and strive for the best.
‘The celebration of silver jubilee must propel us to achieve something worthwhile for the society and to stand as a role model for posterity,’ added Phom.
PSUK president, N Dape Phom, in his address, has called upon the student members to come together and voice in union by not forgetting what their elders have imparted to them.
‘Let us give ours today so that the brotherhood and oneness will always remain alive,’ said Dape.
The students were also exhorted by the first PSUK president, B Ponghok and the president of Phom Students’ Conference (PSC), Hongkam D Ngonyen.
Phom students of Kohima Science College enthralled the gathering with a special number.
