Kohima Municipal Council donates ‘Pillars of love’ to citizens

Kohima, May 13 (EMN): As part of beautification and a gift to the citizens of Kohima town, two abandoned pillars at Razhü Point, which were modified and decorated, was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, K Soundararajan this, morning at 7 a.m.
The pillars was constructed and sponsored by Kohima Municipal Council. Portraying the universal message of spreading love around us, red coloured heart shapes adorned the two pillars and a rope symbolising love being spread as one pulls the rope.
Talking to Eastern Mirror, KMC administrator, Kovi Meyase said they initially contemplated dismantling the pillars as it was abandoned which not only impede the pathway but also were huge eyesore. However, taking into consideration involving time and cost, he said they finally decided to modify and design an urban sculpture out of it.
He informed that the pillars were designed and painted by Project 72 Hrs sponsored by the KMC at a cost of Rs 4,55,000. Materials like plaster of Paris and fibre glass were brought from Guwahati and Kolkata, he informed.
By undertaking such initiatives, Meyase said the office also intends to exhibit its “social face” and wants to invest into the city from the revenues.
It may be mentioned that KMC has also constructed toilets and railings in the town and undertaken repair and maintenance of the bus waiting sheds.
Meyase said signages around town will be up in the next few days and added that all the initiatives taken so far are being done exclusively from funds of the KMC and not from government.
