Kohima to lead NE in joining Global Shapers Community

Global Shapers Kohima Hub, an initiative of the World Economic Forum, will be launched officially on August 1 in the state capital at a function scheduled to be held at 10 am in the premises of Jubilee Memorial Centre, Lerie.
The Global Shapers Community (Hubs) is a global network of local communities based in the world’s major cities comprising of young people who are exceptional in their potential and drive to make a contribution to their communities. With the launch on Saturday, Global Shapers Kohima Hub is set to become the first Hub to be launched in India’s North East region.
The inaugural session will have Global Shapers Kohima Hub mentor and Sustainable Development Forum Nagaland (SDFN) executive director, Amba Jamir and parliamentary secretary for Labour & Employment and Border Affairs, Mmhonlumo Kikon as speakers. Following the inaugural programme, networking, round table discussion and interactive session will be held on the theme ‘Shaping Sustainability: Envisioning, Educating, Creating and Investing to a Future we want’.
Fifty young people from diverse backgrounds including scholars, Church youth leaders, government employees and different professionals have been identified to participate in the event. Discussion will be held on the thematic areas covering Rights, Political Inclusion, Accountability, and Corruption; Environment, Natural Resources and Urban Development vis-a-vis Sanitation and Traffic Management; and Education & Unemployment.
Currently, the Global Shapers Kohima Hub has five shapers- Limabenla Jamir, Lipoksungkum Imsong, Melekhoto Pucho, Neizhanuo Golmei, and Sapu Jamir.
The Shapers have informed that the Kohima Hub was initiated earlier this year with the objective to provide a voice and opportunity to young Nagas, to enable them to create and propose their own solutions to the problems they are facing.
The Global Shapers, Kohima Hub with its motto ‘Shape Your Future’, integrating the personal, community and the global dimension will take on a mission to build a global community of outstanding young people committed to improving the state of the world; to enable the Naga youth to be the voice of the community in the local, regional and global level; to catalyze and enhance individual and collective fresh ideas and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges; and to create, together with the World Economic Forum, by providing Shapers with the knowledge and insight that engender a better understanding of the global, regional and industry agenda.
Global Shapers collaborate and undertake activities that generate positive impact and improve the state of their communities. There are about 452 Hubs across the world and over 5000 Shapers worldwide.
