Dimapur, July 25 (EMN): One of the teams competing in the Kohima Football League would be Ziekezou Sporting Club, formed 20 years ago.
A press release form the organizers of the league on Tuesday described the club as ‘ready to strive for excellence in the upcoming Kohima Football League, 2017, organized by Kohima Town Club, starting next month’.
“Zeikezou, the colony is strategically located outside the outskirt of Kohima town, starts from the borders of Don Bosco school and college, where Asia’s second biggest village –Kohima village – is located, slopes down from its grand mountainous village and stretches towards Billy Graham Road and beyond. This colony is comparatively new to many other colonies in Kohima and is home to a cross-section of people who are highly cultured citizens”, according to the statement.
Ziekezou Sporting Club was formed in 1997 – with the motto “Strive for Excellence” – by Dr Viketoulie Pienyü, a football enthusiast.
The main objective behind the formation of ZSC was to promote local footballers and engage school dropouts and unemployed youngsters in football.
It also aims to “wean young people into healthy recreational habit from the vices of drugs and alcohol, that is rampant in the society” and help local footballers “find gainful employment through football”.
Over the years Ziekezou Sporting Club has not only built a name for itself but has also won a niche as one of the reputed local sporting club particularly in the discipline of football, according to the organizers of the league.
