Kohima Football league enters last week of the season

Debutant Sechu Zubza leads the table tally

Kohima, Aug. 21: More than 100 goals have been scored so far in the second edition of the Kohima Football league as the league entered the last week of the season.

Debutant Sechu Zubza is on the verge of winning the title leading with two points ahead of second placed Ziekiezou SC and a match remaining in the league.

The final match of both Sechü Zubza FC and defending champions Ziekezou SC will decide who will be the new champions of KFL-2.

Sechu Zubza will only need a draw to win the league in the last match against 4th placed Twenty XI on Saturday.

But should Zubza suffer a defeat, Zeikiezuo SC’s win against bottom side United 16 on Friday will put them above Zubza FC to win the league.

The top three teams have already played 11 matches with Sechü Zubza FC leading the table with 23 points, Ziekezou SC in second place with 21 points and third place New Market FC with 19 points.

So far, Sechu Zubza have won seven matches, drawn two and lost two matches, while second placed Ziekiezou SC has won six matches, drawn three and lost two in their respective 11 matches.

The organisers have issued a new fixture for the last week of the league matches.

On Wednesday, with 6th place Vanguard taking on bottom side United 16 FC in the last match of the 11th round.

In the last round (12th) of the Kohima Football league, 3rd place New Market FC will face 5th placed Khriekesa FC, while Twenty XI will lock horns with Vanguard FC on Thursday.

On Friday, United 16 FC will take on 2nd placed Ziekezuo SC.

While league leaders Sechu Zubza will play their last match against Twenty XI FC in the last league match of the tournament.

The champions of this year’s 2nd Kohima Football league will walk home with a cash prize of INR 1,00,000 along with running trophy, citation, medals and certificates while the runners-up will get INR 80,000 along with trophy, citation, medals and certificates.

Individual awards such as player of the tournament, highest scorer, best goalkeeper, best defender, best midfielder, best coach including best disciplined club and best fan club will be awarded during the prize distribution ceremony.

KTC Cup from Aug. 27

The Kohima Town Club Cup will begin from Aug. 27-31, the organisers informed on Tuesday.

All the seven Kohima Football League playing teams will be participating in the KTC Cup. The champions of the KFL will be given a walk-over for the quarterfinal round.

The other six teams will play in the first round, wherein, the three winning teams will join the KFL champions in the round of semifinal.

The winner of the KTC cup will walk home with a cash prize of INR 30,000 and the runners-up will receive INR 20,000.
