Dimapur, May 28 : The Kohima District Core Committee for SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) campaign held its first meeting in the DC’s Conference Hall on May 25.
According to DIPR report, the meeting was held to chalk out the action plan with regard to the 3rd Phase of SVEEP programme for the district. ADC & ERO, Kohima, Lithrongla Tongpi informing about the 3rd Phase of SVEEP programme from 2016 to 2020, said that the district action plan should focus on its mission to increase electoral participation, promote qualitative participation in terms of ethical and informed voting and provide continuous electoral and democracy education. She, therefore opined that the action plan should target in creating voter awareness and encourage electoral participation to obtain maximum voter of educated youth.
AEO and AERO Kohima, Mhathung Ngullie highlighted various activities carried out during the last SVEEP Campaign and invited for new innovative ideas for the 3rd phase of SVEEP programme from the members. He also pointed out some important issues like providing basic facilities to the disabled persons in the polling station, to increase the enrollment of 18-19 years of age group.
In the meeting, the members shared various suggestions like incorporation of the SVEEP programme in the Ward and Village Adoption Committee programme under DPDB Kohima; Awareness campaign at Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges; sensitization of Wards/Colonies; to create awareness through poster & drawing competitions and social media. The house deliberated on the various suggestions contributed by the members and decided to take up for further necessary action to be incorporated in the action plan of 3rd phase of SVEEP programme yearlong activities for the district.
