Dimapur, February 11

While the government and its enforcement departments continue to be tepid about the growing killings and crimes in Nagaland, the anger and disenchantment of communities in the state are growing equally.
Various community organizations issued statements separately denouncing various incidents of killing and rape in the state, particularly the recent killings of a couple on February 6 in Shamator of Tuensang district; the assault of a student leader by a railway policeman in Dimapur on February 3; the murder of Dimapur youth Charlie Hangsing by armed criminals on February 2Killing of couple in Shamator
The All Nagaland Hindi Teachers Union (ANHTU) issued a statement on Thursday, condemning the murder of the couple T. Alemba and Naro by gunmen on February 6 near Yayi Bridge between Shamator and Kiphire.
“ANHTU terms the act as a demonic act and calls upon law enforcing agencies to investigate the killings expeditiously so that the insane perpetrators be booked and brought to justice at the earliest,” the press release from the organization stated.
“T. Alemla Sangtam, a school teacher and his wife Naro, a nurse were playing impotant roles in developing the society through their respective jobs and therefore, states that it’s also a big loss to the society and their contribution will be deeply missed by the common people.”
The ANHTU expressed deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims and pray that the Almighty God would bring solace to the family and children of the deceased.
Assault of student leader
The Western Rengma Students’ Union of Nagaland has demanded justice for the student leader who was allegedly assaulted by a railway protection policeman at Dimapur railway station. A press release from the union stated that the alleged victim, Senenlo Kath, was physically assaulted by RPF ‘personnel,’ which the students’ union condemned as ‘heinous act of the law keepers.’
The union denounced the RPF for ‘misusing the faithful authority vested upon them and harassing / harming innocent citizens.’
“More astonishing is the fact that our fellow brother was beaten to Coma while on his way out after having a fair compromising talk in the RPF office with the personnel. According to doctors his head was hit so bad that he had blood clot in the right side part of his brain,” the press release stated.
“Also the indifferent attitude of the concerned authorities in letting go of the culprit on bail after arresting him based on such serious case FIR raises doubts in their integrity. How safe is an innocent citizen if the one entrusted for his welfare and security is the one attempting his life instead?”
The union expressed solidarity with the victim and his family in fighting for justice for the assaulted person along with the other organizations who have already submitted memorandums to authorities.
The union demanded: “We demand that the culprit be booked and punished keeping in mind the degree of seriousness of the crime he has committed which is none the less an attempt to life. Also the RPF authorities shall provide all kinds of assistance to the victim who is in coma under intensive care at the Gauhati Rahman Hospital ensuring the best medical treatment along with compensation.”
The union has hoped for early and complete recovery of Senenlo Kath
NMA denounces killings and rape
The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) also emerged on Thursday to strongly condemn the “series rise of violence and the killing of an innocent couple in Kiphire on February 6, the murder of Charlie Hangsing Feb 2 and the brutal rape of a minor disabled girl in Kohima.”
In a press release issued to the media on February NMA, expressing “deep resentment over the tragic trail of violence and bloodshed and such destructive trend of violence must be abjured at all cost.”
“We urge the government to seriously probe into these crimes and bring the culprits to book. NMA, fervently appeal for peace and sanity to all citizens and co-operate with the law enforcing agencies and exercise utmost restraint and avoid spreading of rumours, provocative comments to avoid further escalation of tension so also to the different Naga political groups,” the NMA stated.
The NMA has expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members, and prayed that ‘their souls to rest in peace.’
GPRN
The underground group GPRN also ‘strongly condemns’ February 6 ‘incident’ during which a couple Alemba and his wife Naro were brutally murdered.
“It also equally condemns the arson and destruction of houses committed by mob aftermath of the incident. It expresses deep sympathy and condolences to the bereaved orphans and to the families of the victims,” the note from the organization’s MIP on Thursday, stated.
“The GPRN appeals our people to localize the incident and to solve the problem amicably through peaceful means. The incident has affected scores of students who are appearing their Board examinations and other day-to-day daily lives, which is a social wrong,” it added.
