Dimapur, Dec. 12 (EMN): Citing a passage from the Bible (Proverbs 29:18) “when there is no vision the people perish” Secretary LRD & Finance Y Kikheto Sema underscored the need for visionary people to lead the Nagas. He also called for an end of division amongst tribe, clan and other alike if the society has to positively progress. The secretary was addressing as a special guest at the 3-day 48th General Conference of Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK) on Tuesday at Zutovi village under Dimapuer district, being held under the theme, ‘Akughupu Tuqhudo’ (Defining moment). “Now is the time to heal ourselves and our society where corruption and division has fully infested every fabric of the society,” Kikheto said. With SKK at the forefront in the clean election campaign, Kikheto urged the students to make election within the students’ union clean. “Election within your union will define the moment of how and where SKK stand on doing right,” he said. He also expressed optimism that things would gradually fall into its place when people speak the truth and frankly share their views. Kikheto pointed out that with 1.40 lac. employees and government spending around Rs. 5000 cr. annually on salary, economic condition of the people could be decent if the money was circulated within the state. However, he rued that the money was going outside since there was no work culture among the Naga society. He also mentioned that SKK mission of ‘doing right’ and its clean election campaign was aptly related to the conference theme, ‘defining moment.’ Delivering greetings, Western Sumi Hoho president, Zheshito Swu advised the students to be careful about usage of social media as it has both merits and demerits. He also encouraged the students to get habituated to speaking and writing in Sumi dialect within the community. Thousands of students from 17 units under SKK is said to have been attending the conference. Pastor Zutovi Baptist Church, Rev. Shitovi Swu invoked God’s blessing while ‘Ato Kukau’ head Gb of Zutovi village delivered welcome address. Students of Livingstone Higher Secondary School, Dimapur enacted a drama depicting corruption and social evils in the society. The Inaugural session on Wednesday morning, Governor PB Acharya will grace the event as the chief guest while Dr. Hotokhu Chishi, joint director, Health & Family Welfare will be the main speaker of the evening session.
