Khriezephe village, a village under the Chumuokedima block of Dimapur district Rural Development, has won the distinction as the first village to successfully implement cent-per-cent rural housing under the housing program Indira Awaz Yojana (IAY) during 2014-2015.
Indira Awaas Yojana is a social welfare flagship programme, created by the Indian Government, to provide housing for the rural poor in India. This scheme, operating since 1985, provides subsidies and cash-assistance to people in villages to construct their houses, themselves.
To oversee the successful implementation of the scheme, Block Development Officer (BDO), Chumuokedima block, K Yamao Konyak, visited the village and held a brief function with the village functionaries on February 12.
During the discourse, Yamao Konyak highlighted success stories in Mon district particularly his native village Chenwetnyu, the first village in Mon district to achieve total tin roofing. To ensure success of any developmental project, he advised the villagers to cooperate with the council.
Besides, he also encouraged the village functionaries to maintain transparency and accountability and to judiciously make use of the fund allocation for the general welfare of the public. Meanwhile, he noted that some people in Nagaland are misusing Right to Information (RTI) for their self aggrandizement.
In conclusion, he has sought cooperation and suggestions from the villagers to work together in the public interest. He has attributed the success of the project to the former Project Director, Asangla T Aier.
In the meeting, Village Development Board secretary, K James Vizo, apprised the visiting BDO on the past achievements of the village. Notable achievements included construction of mini dam for irrigation purpose which had benefitted three surrounding villages, construction of community building and installation of street lights. He also mentioned that besides the existing roads, five new roads were constructed funded by the government.
Village chairman, Jonah Kemp, chaired the function, while short speech was also delivered by Head GB of Tenyiphe village Nolase Zhotso. The vote of the thanks was delivered by the Khriezephe village Head GB, L Seyie, while the invocation and benediction were said by pastor of Khriezephe Baptist Church and a missionary Tepu respectively.
