Kohima, Aug. 9 (EMN): Vimelie and Purankum scored two goals each as Khriekesa FC defeated Vanguard FC 5-3 at the ongoing 2nd Kohima Football League held here at Kohima local ground on Thursday.

With the win, Khriekesa FC temporarily moved above New Market FC at 3rd place with 12 points on better goal difference (+5) and Vanguard FC in fifth place with eight points.

Should New Market FC win on Friday, the team will move above Ziekezou SC in second place at the end of 8th round of the Kohima Football League table.

Vimelie and Purankum scored two goals each while Ruokuovolie Phewhuo scored a stunner as Khriekesa FC claimed a victory over Vanguard in a thrilling encounter. Khriekesa scored three goals in the second half to make sure the team will close the gap with the league leaders by five points.

In the match, Vanguard FC opened the account through a stunning long range kick from Sinlo Kent as Kezhose played a smart ball through for him to take the shot and score in the 2nd minute of the first half.
But the lead was cut short as Khriekesa FC got the equaliser through Vimelie when Purakam setup him up inside the area in 8th minute.

Vanguard again took the lead again as Nyithong Magh passed a beautiful cross and found Kezhose Mathew to angle a clever header in the near post in the 23rd minute.

In the second half, Khriekesa took the lead from a brilliant effort of Vimelie, who passed the defenders to thump home the third goal for Khriekesa FC in the 50th minute. Khriekesa did conceded the third goal from a poor corner clearance for Sinlo Kent to score his second goal in the 57th minute to make it 3-3.

But Vanguard, looking for the fourth goal, was cut short when Ruokuovolie Phewhuo scored a stunning long range kick in the 67th minutue to give Khriekesa the fourth goal. The goalkeeper Neimezo Huozha came to rescue in the 80th minute when Yhunshalo Kemp header was saved by the keeper to continue their lead for Khriekesa.

With the match ending in favour of Khriekesa, Purankum headed home the fifth goal in the 94th minute from a corner kick to end the match in favour of Khriekesa FC.
