Khiamniungan tribe wins folk tune contest

Kohima Bureau Kisama, Dec. 4 (EMN): The Khiamniunga tribe emerged as the winner in folk tune competition held at Kisama heritage village on December 4 evening. The Khiamniungan community was represented by Thangpong, Pehe, Shingnyo and Tenyoh, presenting a quartet folk tune titled “Hoiye Zui.” They bagged the title from among the 17 tribes who took part in the competition. Meanwhile, the 1st and 2nd runners-up were bagged by the Chang and Yimchunger communities respectively. Chang tribe was represented by Nasat, Tomu, Mongko and Yenjong (Quartet), while Khiamniungan was represented by Tsupan, Tsuntsu, Henshet and Pongan (Quartet). The winners were given a cash award of Rs. 30,000, while the 1st and 2nd runners-up both received Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively. The other groups were Zeliang (Duet), Pochury (Duet), Phom (Quartet), Sangtam (Quartet), Sumi (Quartet), Garo (Quartet), Lotha (Quartet), Rengma (Duet), Kuki (Quartet), Konyak (Solo), Chakhesang (Duet), Ao (Solo), Kachari (Quartet) and Angami (Quartet). Apart from the top three winners, all the other participants also received consolation prizes.
