The 9th I Kawoto Memorial Volleyball running trophy got under way today with Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Public Relations (IPR), Khekaho Assumi inaugurating the event as the special guest at Lumithsami village under Akuluto Sub-Division.
Speaking at the occasion, the Khekaho encouraged the players to be disciplined which are required in every sport to excel and strive to play in the state and national level. He took examples of Chekrovolu Swuro and Israel G Xuivi who not only represented the State but also excelled in the International level. He further said that, being the Parliamentary Secretary of Information and Public Relations he is trying to uplift the IPR department assuring that everyone in the State will witness IPR activities shortly and for which he said he is in touch with Central Ministers for funding. He said that the Chief Minister has assured to look into the problems of the department. Altogether 13 teams are participating in the tournament.
Earlier in the programme, welcome speech was given by Kakheto Kinimi, Head GB Lumithsami where he said the main motive for organising the trophy was to uplift local talents. Later the special guest declared the trophy open. The tournament is a three day event which will culminate on July 4.
The Parliamentary Secretary later held a meeting and interacted with the Heads of Offices of Akuluto Sub-Division at DBs Court Akuluto where the meeting was chaired by SDO Akuluto Kikumsungla. During the meeting, the Parliamentary Secretary advised the government servants at Akuluto to work with sincerity and dignity. The Heads of Offices resolved to hold meeting every month.
