Khekaho aspires taking State players to greater heights
AI Powerplay to host Futsal tournament
Dimapur, March 13 (EMN): On assuming the charge of Parliamentary Secretary of Youth Resources and Sports (YR&S), Khekaho Assumi, today underlined his desire promoting sportspersons in the State by providing adequate infrastructures in order to enable them compete at the State and national levels.
To translate his programmes and policies into reality, Khekaho Assumi had recently visited the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima and held interaction with the contractor and the department officials. He has also planned to visit the ongoing construction work sites at Stadium in Dimapur, Indoor Stadium in Nagarjan, Multi-purpose Sports Stadium in Jalukie.
Addressing media persons at Hotel Saramati on Monday, Khekaho highlighted on the central government scheme under ‘Khelo India’ – a national programme for development of sports for identifying and promoting sporting talents in the country.
Khekaho, who recently took over the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, said despite limited period to work until the next elections would try to bring about equitable infrastructural development in all the districts.
“There are some funds under the Khelo India scheme and we will invite professionals to impart training to young talents,” he said. Khekaho insisted that deserving candidates should avail such benefits under grant-in-aid and capacity building programmes.
Asked on the progress of the State’s premier state of the art ‘State Stadium’ located near DC Court junction, Khekaho said the Department has decided to inspect the site in the first week of April and to do necessary follow up action.
On any further scheme to be pursuit, Khekaho said the Union Ministry including the NEC and DONER have declined to sponsor new projects in the State unless the ongoing projects were completed by furnishing certification on fund utilisation.
Expressing concerned to tap the hidden talents among the Naga youth, Khekaho insisted on reviving “Catch Them Young” tournaments.
On the occasion, Khekaho also highlighted on the upcoming U-18 Futsal Tournament to be held on March 25 and 26 organised by A1 Powerplay in association with the Department of Youth Resources & Sports.
He said the Futsal coaching camp would be held at DDSC Stadium where coaches from outside the State would be coming to impart trainings. He added that the camp would be conducted for the aged group between 11-12 years.
He said the selected players of the coaching camp will sent to Guwahati for further scrutiny/ screening and onward training at Mumbai for a national level.
On the occasion, Akika of A1 Powerplay informed that officials from North East United FC would visit the State on March 25 and 26 for a coaching to layers Under 11-12 years. Further, he said that the U-18 Futsal Tournament would be held on March 26 at A1 Powerplay, 3rd Mile, Dimapur, at 4 PM. He said 16 teams have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
