Students and members of the faculty of Sasard hold placards and lighted candles as an expression of solidarity, outside the institute’s campus at Medziphema, in Dimapur district.

Dimapur, April 15 (EMN): Student associations and authorities of the School of Agricultural Sciences & Rural Development (Sasrd) took out a candlelight march as a token of protest against the rape case of Kathua and Unnao on April 15.

A press release received here on Sunday informed that during the short gathering, the president of the student’s union of Sasrd, Kedirisi Namdaw, told the gathering that ‘the people of Nagaland are much concerned for the justice of Asifa and Unnao rape case.’

Also, the joint secretary of Northeast zone of the All India Agricultural Student’s Association at New Delhi, Ashwini Ananda, said in her message that ‘there is a religion above all religions, that is the religion of humanity and we should understand it as soon as possible. Otherwise, humanity is on the verge of extinction and examples are already there.’

Likewise, the pro-vice chancellor in charge Prof. M Aleminla Ao, expressed empathy with the issue and demanded for justice.

Also, asst. professor of department of genetics and plant breeding Dr. Pankaj Shah, encouraged the students to take initiative in noble causes.

The gathering was followed by a candlelight march by students and the institution’s authorities. More than 200 students participated in the march.

“It is high time for the human race to ask the question to himself that do we need to become so communal that we leave the humanity nowhere? Where are we going and what kind of society are we making for us and our future generation? Whatever happened to Asifa was communal but the impact of the communalism had shaken humanity. We should think once whether we are still human or are we becoming something else with the due course of time?” the press release stated.
