Kargil Vijay Diwas observed in Mnp

Imphal, July 26 (EMN): To pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil War in 1999, the ‘18th Kargil Vijay Diwas’ was observed at 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall today with Public Work Department (PWD) Minister Th. Biswajit as the chief guest and Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD) and Revenue Minister Karam Shyam Singh as the functional president of the observation.
Speaking on the occasion Minister Biswajit praised the courage and bravery of the soldiers for their selfless service to the country. He said seven soldiers from Manipur sacrificed their lives during the 74 days long Kargil War.
In his Presidential speech, Revenue minister Shyam said that the sole objective of the observation was to recall the supreme sacrifice and to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who dedicated themselves to the gigantic task of nation building and to protect the unity and integrity of our nation for the future generation.
In Chandel district, the 18th Kargil Vijay Diwas was also observed under the aegis of district administration today at Deputy Commissioner’s (DCs) Chamber. Speaking on the occasion Chandel DC Krishna Kumar said ‘the sacrifice made by our soldiers for our freedom is worth everything.’ “We should be proud of the sacrifice made by our brothers from Chandel district” he added.
Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of Chandel, Radhakanta and Additional SP Md Jakiruddin of the district apart from district level officers, staffs and well-wishers from the district attended the observation.
It may be recalled that three sepoy namely Charles Nicolas Moyon, Beningvir Moyon and Lance Naik Birneithang all from Chandel were amongst the 527 heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Army pays homage to Kargil martyr in Shillong
The Indian Army paid homage today to Kargil martyr and local lad Capt Keishing Clifford Nongrum, who died fighting Pak intruders in 1999 in an operation to recapture an important point in Batalik sector in Jammu and Kashmir. General Officer Commanding of 101 Area, Lieutenant General D S Ahuja and other senior army officials laid wreaths at the bust of Nongrum at Rhino Heritage Museum here during the ceremony on Kargil Vijay Diwas today. Nongrum s parents, Keishing Peter Nongrum and Saily Nongrum besides his other family members were also present on the occasion. He is the first and the only person in Meghalaya to have been awarded the second highest gallantry award, the Maha Vir Chakra for bravery posthumously. Born in March 1975, Nongrum did his schooling here. Prior to being commissioned in the 12th Battalion Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, he graduated from Officer Training Academy in 1996.
