Kohima, May 12 (EMN): Miss Nagaland 2014 1st runners up and Ponds Eclectic Model Hunt 2015 1st runners up, Kaheli Chophy, is all set to represent the State at the Femina Miss India finals to be held at Mumbai on June 25. The show will be telecasted in Colours TV.

Chophy is the second woman from the State after Akuonuo Khezhie to represent the State in the Femina Miss India finals. She was selected as the Femina Miss India Nagaland 2017 at the Femina Miss India auditions, which was held at Guwahati, Assam, on March 19.

Kaheli Chophy will be leaving for Mumbai on May 25 for the finals to compete with 29 contestants from all over India. Femina, a part of the Times of India Group, introduced a new system where Femina will be selecting a winner from each State as to have equal representation of all the Indian States.

At a press conference held this morning at Dream Cafe, Kohima, Kaheli Chophy expressed gratitude to God and Beauty and Aesthetic Society of Nagaland (BASN) for the opportunity to represent Nagaland at the national level.

Recounting her journey during the auditions and ultimately leading to her selection, Chophy said during the crowning ceremony held in Kolkata on March 29, the contestants were assigned with three major projects. One project, she said was the Gateways of Nagaland wherein she had to showcase her own traditions, cultures and local cuisines. As part of the second project ‘beauty with a purpose,’ she has to do a charity visit to all the schools and remote areas. The third project, she said was the ‘national costume,’ whereby BASN had arranged a designer for the same although the project was still in process.

‘I could not start early because I didn’t get any sponsor or support from the government or people,’ she said.

Citing the example of Mizoram, where the contestants managed to garner lots of support, Chophy opined that Nagas are not very supportive towards beauty pageant. In this context, she has solicited support, prayers and feedbacks of the people from Nagaland.

Chophy acknowledged that it is going to be a tough competition with many other talented, smart and confident girls from all over India. ‘I realised the honour and responsibility of the title and I promise you all that I will give my best,’ she confided.

Also addressing media personnel, Melekhoto informed that Femina Miss India, this year, wanted to select a representative from the seven states. Seven participants from Nagaland were sent for auditions in Guwahati, where Kaheli Chophy was selected as the winner of Miss India Nagaland.

He said Chophy will be representing Nagaland in the finals in Mumbai on June 25 along with other 29 participants. With all its limitations and struggles, Melekhoto appreciated BASN for supporting Chophy in various trainings such as grooming, communication skills, ramp walk etc.

The vital statistics of Femina Miss India Nagaland 2017, Kaheli Chophy is 33-26-35 with a height of 5.6 ½. She has completed her Post Graduate in Political Science from St. Peters’ College, Shillong.

Meanwhile, ‘Miss Multimedia’ contest based on social networks has been set up and Chophy has requested the people of Nagaland to follow on her instagram, twitter and Facebook account which goes by Kaheli Chophy.
