Judicial officers urged to revive public confidence

Dimpaur, Oct. 1 (EMN): With the gradual decadence of judiciary system in the State, Judge of Gauhati High Court, Justice LS Jamir, has urged the judicial officers to instil confidence by dispensing justice without bias in order to regain the public’s confidence.
Jamir said this in his address at the 15th general conference of the Nagaland Judicial Officers Association (NJOA) and election of new office bearers on September 29 held at the Law Guest House, Dimapur.
Speaking as the guest speaker, Jamir has cautioned the judiciary officers against people losing their in the judiciary system. He has urged the judiciary officers to deliver justice in every possible way at this time and age when the fate of the people lies with the judiciary.
Stressing on the importance of integrity of a judicial officer, he urged the officers to maintain the highest degree of integrity so that there are no report of impropriety from any quarter.
Stating that protracted trials would have the biggest effect on the weaker section of the society, Justice LS Jamir urged the officers to avoid delay and deliver timely justice. At a time when the society is fighting against corruption, he urged the officers to let judiciary be the weapons.
Jamir also maintained that the conduct in the court and the way they live should instil hope amongst the people that judiciary will save them. Also stating that a separate High Court for Nagaland is mandated as per the Constitution of India, he urged the judicial officers to take it up appropriately for the benefit of the State.
During the second session, elections of new office bearers for the tenure 2017-2020 was held wherein Neiko Kano, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Mon, was elected as the new president; Lonshithung, District and Sessions Judge, Phek, was elected as vice president; Inalo Zhimomi, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mon, as the general secretary; Somet Chang, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Peren, as the assistant general secretary; and Wonchibeni Lotha, JMFC, Dimapur, as the treasurer.
Hukato Swu, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Dimapur, chaired the second session. The general secretary and treasurer have presented annual reports.
In the first session, the presidential address was delivered by YM Imchen, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kohima. The programme was chaired by Mezivolu T Therieh, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kiphire.
