Journalists, officials visit plantation sites

Dimapur, Dec. 12 (EMN): On the second day of the media workshop on climate change reporting group of reporters from different departments, journalists and government officials of India undertook field visits in and around Kohima on Tuesday. During the field visits to Thizama and L-Khel plantation areas, district project officer, Kohima, Dr. Menesetuo Tseikha explained about the Spring Shed Development Project initiated by department of Land Resources Nagaland, in convergence with People Science Institute, Dehradun and PMKSY-WDC focusing on regenerating springs, streams and underground flows. He also highlighted on coffee plantation developed through watershed programme, managed by the rural community and supported by state government. He also informed that approximately 16,18,000 coffee plants were planted in Kohima district alone which is encouraging as per the department’s observation is concerned. Participants also appraised the benefit to farmers and inter-relation to climate change conservation.
