JD(U) legislator joins ruling NPF

The lone JD (U) MLA B.S. Nganlang has merged with the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) today.
This is the third merger with NPF barely in two weeks after the merger of Congress and NCP legislators with the regional party.
The JD(U) MLA who was a post-poll ally of NPF-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland government, formally declared the his merger with NPF in the Assembly on Tuesday, a statement issued by NPF president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu said.
In a letter to NLA Speaker, Dr Shurhozelie said that the MLA has merged with the NPF in accordance with the law laid down by the Gauhati High Court judgment (delivered on 12.11.2014). Dr Shurhozelie said that the MLA is protected against disqualification on ground of defection.
In terms of Rule 4 of the members of NLA, Dr Shurhozelie said, Nganlang has changed his party affiliation from JD(U) to NPF with effect from 01.12.2015.
Dr Shurhozelie in this regard, requested the Speaker to show Nganlang as an NPF member in the Assembly records w.e.f 01.12.2015, pending issuance of appropriate order.
