Dimapur, Feb. 21: Reminding that the removal of TR Zeliang from the chair of chief minister was just one of their few demands, the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) and the Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) on Tuesday made it clear that they would not give up until all of their demands were met.

Addressing a joint press conference here at Dimapur today, the two organisations told reporters that their demands also include the suspension of the now-transferred commissioner of Dimapur police, the deputy commissioner of Longleng and all the police personnel involved in the police firings at Dimapur and Longleng; and a “thorough” amendment of the Nagaland Municipal Act.
Their two other demands – nullification of the elections to urban local bodies and resignation of the chief minister – have been fulfilled.

The JCC and the NTAC have called for a meeting of all the apex Naga tribe hohos on March 3 next at Dimapur to finalise its next plan of action. JCC convener, Supu Jamir said that the Nagaland Municipal Act was the “epicentre” of all the upheavals that have occurred recently, and that it must be “rectified in toto”.

They also reiterated their earlier rejection of one-man judicial inquiry commission formed by the state government to probe the January 31 violence. As demanded earlier, they said that the commission must be expanded to three members including “an eminent person of high integrity from the NGOs”.

Also, the leaders at the press conference were of the view that “the national organisations and the national media” were “biased” and attempting to project the Naga men in a “bad light”. To this, one of the NTAC members said: “Outside media should come to Nagaland and understand. We invite any national organisation to debate”.
