Jalukie gets scientific pig slaughter house

Dimapur, July 20: In a major achievement towards catering hygienic meat products for consumption, a scientific pig slaughter house was inaugurated in Jalukie town under Peren district on July 20.

The scientific pig slaughter house in Jalukie town was stated to be second in the Northeast region. The first scientific pig slaughter house being at Rani in Guwahati, Assam.

The scientific pig slaughter house is being functioned by the Peren Pig Producer Company Limited, supported by North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP) under the Ministry of DoNER and supported by World Bank.

The scientific pig slaughter house was inaugurated by advisor of Rural Development, Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire in the presence of North East Council (NEC) secretary, Ram Muivah, and other dignitaries of the State.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kire stressed on hygiene in the food people consume for maintaining healthy body. Stating that mere inauguration of scientific pig slaughter house was not enough, Dr. Kire encouraged the stakeholders to utilise the facility with utmost diligence in order to uplift their income.

Also stating that Self Help Groups (SHGs) has come up in a big way towards supplementing the economy of the people in rural areas, Dr. Kire thanked NEC for the project. He encouraged the people to rear pig on commercial scale in order to attain self-sufficiency also export to other areas beyond the State.

NEC secretary, Ram Muivah, commented that Peren is one of the most successful districts implemented under NERLP. He has attributed the success to the active support and cooperation of SHGs and efficiency of the District Project Management Unit under the supervision of the Project Coordinator.

Expressing his admiration for Peren district with its natural resources, Ram Muivah has termed the district as ‘Economic basket of Nagaland.” Stating that the district has bright future, he encouraged the community leaders to put in more efforts to exploit its optimum potentials.

As NERLP is scheduled to complete its work implementation in September, Ram Muivah also announced that the project has been extended for another term. He, however, stated that the project would be merged with North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCORMP) encompassing all the districts. He said the project would be implemented with enhanced fund from INR 900 crore to INR 1200 crore under World Bank.

Principal Secretary of Rural Development, Bendangkokba, chaired the programme, while the District Project Manager, Peren, Ruuvilie Kotsu spoke on the progress of the project and the vote of thanks was proposed by the State Project Coordinator, M Ringsanbo Zeliang.
