International Yoga Day observed across Nagaland

Dimapur, June 21 (EMN): International Yoga Day, which falls on June 21, was observed across Nagaland with government departments, organisations and educational institutions celebrating the occasion by performing asanas.

International Yoga Day-cum-District Youth convention was observed at GHSS ground in Dimapur with DC Dimapur Kevekha Kevin Zehol as the special guest.

Zehol said at the event that people across the globe would celebrate the occasion as the United Nation had declared June 21 as International Yoga Day on December 12, 2014, informed an update from DIPR. “India has contributed in many ways with the global society and Yoga is one of them,” he said.

The DC also mentioned that yoga is an ancient Indian practice that involved physical and mental practice, and “so in order to live a happy and healthy life we have to keep our body healthy and fit.”

The resource persons of the programme were Asst. Prof. & Youth Mentor NEISSR, Dimapur Dr. Amit Das and Yoga Instructor, Patanjali Biman Nath. Das spoke on “Healthy Youth, Healthy Nation” while Nath led the Yoga session at the event.

The occasion was jointly organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Dimapur, department of Youth Resources & Sports, Sports Authority of India Dimapur, NSS, NCC, and BS&G.

Wokha

Students from Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha took part in the International Yoga Day celebration held at Badminton Indoor Stadium (GHSS), Wokha on Friday with Yoga instructor, Hav. Gulbir Singh from 28 Assam Rifles, Wokha Battalion giving them basic lesson on Common Yoga Protocol (CYP).

Programme Co-ordinate NYK, Wokha, Ethel told the participants that “Yoga unites body and mind whereby making our body fit and fine.” She went on to say that that it helps in many ways like “reducing stress, depression and promoting fitness and balance, and gives a perfect harmony between the mind and the soul.”

The event was organised by the department of Youth Resources & Sports, Wokha.

Mon
International Yoga Day was observed at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Mon, on Friday with Havidar Shamsheer of 35 AR, Mon Town, leading the participants into various Asanas and physical exercises.

Anguvito Sumi, DSO, Mon highlighted the significance of Yoga Day and stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the brainchild behind Yoga Day observation which was approved by the United Nations.

The event was organised by the department of Youth Resource & Sport under the aegis of District Youth Resources & Sports Officer.

Mokokchung
A total of 104 youth and NSS students from Jubilee Memorial College, Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, and People’s College Mokokchung attended the International Yoga Day programme held at Multi-purpose sports complex, Mokokchung on June 21.

The event was jointly organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra, District Sport Office, and National Service Scheme, according to a press release from John Makhabo, DYC, NYK.

Special Guest of the event Rohit Singh, IAS, told the participants that “Yoga works on the level of one’s body, mind, emotion and energy.” It is a process of creating body and mind that are stepping-stones, not hurdles to an exuberant and fulfilling life, he said, adding that Yoga also helps students to consecrate better in studies.

He appealed to the gathering to make Yoga a lifestyle.

Speaking on the importance and significance of Yoga, instructor of Yoga, Rajeev Kumar told the gathering that it is a physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in India, which was later promoted by the United Nations for global health, harmony and peace. He also said that Yoga is a means of meditation

It also brings harmony between mind and body, he said, adding that folding both hands symbolises in yoga the union of individual consciousness, a perfect harmony between mind and body, man and nature, the holistic approach to health and well-being.

The inputs sessions were followed by practices of various yoga exercises by the participants.
