Intangki declared eco-sensitive zone

Dimapur, July 26 (EMN): Fringe villages around Intangki National Park (INP) have agreed to declare the park as ‘Eco-sensitive zone’ and to abide by the rules and regulations provided by the department by appending their signature in presence of all the participants.
The declaration to this effect was taken during a meeting organised by the Intanki National Park officials with the fringe villages on July 25 at Forest Rest House in Jalukie town, which was attended by 16 out of the total 20 villages. The remaining villages could not attend the meeting due to communication problem.
During the meeting, Heuneilung, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Intangki National Park, highlighted on the objective and policy for declaring the park as eco-sensitive zone along the areas adjacent to the Park.
YM Jami, CF & Director of Intangki National Park, spoke on details about the purpose, objectives and extent of the provision for total prohibition, regulatory and permissible activities. He also pointed out about the scope of development of eco-tourism inside the National Park with which fringe villagers will be the beneficiaries with the start of tourists inflow.
Dr. Sentitula, Divisional Forest Officer, Peren Division, also spoke by supplementing on the idea of declaration of eco-sensitive zone. She has appreciated the good response of public in attending the meeting. Elaborating on the importance of National Park in the district, she pointed out on the direct and indirect benefit in terms of business to the people of fringe villages when the Park is well protected and developed by declaring as ecological sensitive zone in their respective village jurisdiction.
Convenor of Action Committee on Protection of Intangki National Park along with the Advisor of Zeliangrong Baudi, who also attended the meeting, supported the declaration and assured full co-operation to the department towards the protection of the National Park.
Having fully understood about the activities on prohibition, regulation and permission, which will enforce after the declaration, the participating villages agreed with their full conscience to declare and abide by the rules and regulations provided by the department after which they appended their signature in presence of all the participants.
The participants also expressed gratitude to the department for distribution of solar lamps with the view to encourage the peoples to adopt and use renewable source of energy thereby reducing the fire wood consumption.
