The Rattle & Hum Music Society is launching the India Edition of the Handshake Concert to commemorate the 10th Year Anniversary at Bengaluru on January 21, 2017. The event is being organised in collaboration with the Naga Students Union of Bangalore.
The Governor of Nagaland P. B. Acharya and Honorable Member of Parliament Neiphiu Rio are slated to grace the occasion as chief guests. Member of Parliament from Karnataka, Rajeev Chandrasheker will be the Special Guest.
The first of the India Edition will feature international acclaimed table virtuoso Pandita Anuradha Pal, folk-pop band from Nagaland Coloured Keys, Grammy Award nominated Lama Tashi from Arunachal and folk-rock band Swaratma. MTV Europe Music Awards winner Alobo Naga and the band will also feature in the concert.
One of the main objectives of the Handshake Concert is to promote music, art and culture and spread the message of oneness and friendship “one Handshake at a time”. Already the Handshake Concert has two other editions, namely the Raj Bhavan Editions and the International Editions. The international editions are organised in collaboration with Indian Missions and Embassies and the governments and agencies of the hosting countries. In the past five years, the concert has been successfully held in Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, China, and South Korea.
While providing an international platform for artists, musicians and cultural ambassadors, the event also creates a better appreciation of the country’s people, culture and heritage to the global community. The India Edition aspires to strive towards the same vision by bringing artists and cultural ambassadors from different regions and corners of the country under the Handshake umbrella and not only promote the performers and our more than 3000 year old heritage but also contribute towards understanding, mutual appreciation and unity.
A team of artists, officials and technical organisers have arrived in Bengaluru led by the President of the Society, Theja Meru, who is himself a renowned musician, activist-promoter and a recipient of the Governor’s Award. Air Asia is the travel partner of the event and Rolling Stones is the official magazine partner. Other sponsors include Myntra.com, Rapsri and Royal Enfield.
