Eastern Mirror: Can you tell us a little about ‘The Electric Cool Kid’?

The Electric Cool Kid: The Electric Cool Kid was formed in the month of January 2013.  From its very inception, the main aim of the band was to make honest music; the music that would make people think and tingle their imaginations.

Eastern Mirror: When did you realize that music was the place for you? Do you have a definitive aim for your career?

The Electric Cool Kid: I’ve never been athletic. I can’t dance nor can I act. But the only thing I was ever remotely good at was music. Hence, ever since I was a kid I knew that I wanted to be a musician.

As for my career, I just wish to share my story to the world.

Eastern Mirror: What are some of the favorite moments that you have come across as a band?

The Electric Cool Kid: It feels special every time I get up on stage. But if I had to pick a few; it would be when TECK got selected to perform in front of the people from the British Council India. Another highlight would be playing alongside Divine Connection and opening for them.

Eastern Mirror: What is it about music that ‘The Electric Cool Kid’ love?

The Electric Cool Kid: The art of making something out of nothing has always been the thing that has intrigued me the most about music. I’ve always been fascinated by the freedom that music offers and the ability it gives each and every one of us to interpret life in our own words.

Eastern Mirror: In which genre do you categorize your band? Do you strictly follow the particular genre?

The Electric Cool Kid: We’re as Indie as they come.

Well, Indie isn’t a concrete genre. There are no fixed rules and it is a genre that is very open for interpretation. So at the end of the day influences come from different genres as well. The most important thing is about what feels right at the moment. Sometimes ‘less is more’ while sometimes ‘more is more’.

Eastern Mirror: Believing few of you favorites to be a mixture of old and present days rock (Arctic Monkeys and Pink Flyod), what differences do you see in the past and modern day music?

The Electric Cool Kid: Modern day musicians are better looking? Ha-ha

Jokes aside, musically I don’t think there’s such a big difference between the past and the present. The 80’s and 90’s had a lot of genuine music but there was a ton of bad music too. Today, it’s pretty much the same case. But one thing I want to say is that back in the day they had to start everything from scratch, they had to define everything themselves. So, in other words, they’ve done it all. The modern musician has just taken a little bit of everything from the past and refined it.

Eastern Mirror: When was the first onstage performance of ‘The Electric Cool Kid’? How was the experience like?

The Electric Cool Kid: TECK’s first performance was back in February 8, 2013.

The experience was life changing. That’s the night I got the assurance that I was heading in the right direction.

Eastern Mirror: Seeing the growth of music industry and the importance given to musicians in Nagaland, would you credit any person who could be behind the cause?

The Electric Cool Kid: I think everyone in Nagaland has a role to play in the growth of the industry. I’d like to take this time to give a shout out to INDIHUT (http://indihut.com/) for all the hard work they’ve done in making music more accessible in Nagaland and even beyond. I would also like to thank all the music lovers in Nagaland. For it is because of them that we are challenged everyday to make better music and become better musicians.

Eastern Mirror: Word of encouragement for upcoming musicians of Nagaland.

The Electric Cool Kid: “Be original. Be inspired. Don’t do it for the fame but do it for the satisfaction.”
