EASTERN MIRROR: A little intro about ‘Ambush’ for those who haven’t heard of you….
Ambush: Ambush came into existence in February 2015 with the main aim to represent the voice of the voiceless. Ambush is a revolution against all wrong taking places in our society and region through music. We are against the fake encounter, corrupt govt. and their lies, communial clashes, bandh culture and rape. We started with a lineup of Amarjeet Bey on guitar (classical guitar student under trinity college, London grade-6), Jitu Tokbi on bass and Sarmon Teron on Drums (former fellow Kreecher). Later Risim Rongpi aka Hustle Recho an Anthropologist, rapper and a Former VJ in NE hifi and HiT7 joined Ambush bringing his politically charged rhymes with lots of aggression which we called it as political Hip hop. Most of our songs are politically influenced so we called it political hip hop.

EASTERN MIRROR: Top 5 favourite tracks of the band?
Ambush: Bleeding Anglong,9MM, Corruption Choke, Right to income (RTI) and war within the breath

EASTERN MIRROR: Your group was recently featured on MTV Indies Rhythm8, the largest Indie stage… What was it like to be a part of it?
Ambush: Met a guy from Mtv at one of our shows in Guwahati..he took my no. And called me after a month or two saying that Mtv indies has come up with a new project called Pepsi Mtv indies Rhythm8 and they want Ambush to be a part of it and I was like ‘Hell Yeah!’ It felt great to be featured in Mtv indies just 6 months after our band’s existence alongside some great bands.

EASTERN MIRROR: As mentioned in indihut’s Ambush profile, the band has a very unique aim…. How would you like to elaborate it in a positive way?
Ambush: We want to give voice to the voiceless and also highlight problems like fake encounter, Corruption, communal clashes, Bandh culture and rape. The government has allowed the people of karbi Anglong to starve,Women to get raped in the name of armed forces special powers act (AFSPA).Our songs are meant to make the people aware about the excessive crimes committed against them.

EASTERN MIRROR: ‘Music brings transformation’, as believed by all music lovers,… do you think your rap metal band can bring positive change in the region?
Ambush: Rap involves the speaking/ chanting of rhyming lyrics. And this is exactly what we wanted. We wanted to deliver speech, spread our message and slogan. Frame rhyming words and catch people ears easily and we think it is the most sophicated style of poetry. Heavy metal instrumentation +political rap lyrics=AMBUSH
We know we can’t bring revolutionary change but atleast we can hope to bring some change in our society with our songs by making people aware about the excesses committed against them.

EASTERN MIRROR: Like your first single “Bleeding Anglong” that talks about bleeding of the hills in Karbi Anglong, have you come up with any other singles that voices the pain of the voiceless society?
Ambush: Yes we came up with two more protest songs, 9MM and Corruption choke. 9MM is about the bandh culture that’s happening in our district.some one will take his gun shoot someone and another group of people will come with karbi anglong bandh the next day. We want to tell people that one day bandh and 9MM shall burry us all. Corruption choke is about the vicious circle that moves on..the funds are being used to buy big cars and built big houses by the corrupt govt. The lines go like this “no books no medicine where has it gone , no roads no lights where has it gone..big cars big houses where does it come from?? “

EASTERN MIRROR: Any words of advice for the upcoming music lovers who dream of healing the sick society?
Ambush: The only way to make it, is by hard work and determination. Of course you need good music to start with but persevere and it will pay off and remember they can’t silent us with their bullets cause we know we are brave and we don’t fear going to the grave..its time to stand and unite…fist!!
