Zeena Singh For Eastern Mirror Sunday

Hello folks,

I believe that life has so much to give if only we cared to give a little thought to the most minuscule of joys (which we’d find so much of) only if we’d stop looking at the looming discomforts and discontents.
So here I am, to share with you the simplest joys in my life as I have experienced some time in my life and those that I take as I face each day, at a time.

Prayer and a Jolly Good Compassionate Fellow Traveller
Three years is a pretty long time to be away from one’s home, hence this longing compulsion to take my sister to her home of seven years built out of dreams, hard toil and a whole lot of love. I yearned to fulfil her craving desire to see her dear home and be amidst her familiar surroundings.
A couple of months of mental and somewhat physical planning and preparation brought us both to the start of our voyage. Her home was a good 2880 kilometres away from our family home, which meant that it would probably have taken us a comfortable 4 days and 3 nights on the road. Thankfully that was the farthest from our thoughts, design or intent of the travel plan. That distance could effortlessly be covered in just two and a half hours for which I couldn’t but be more indebted to technology and the Wright brothers.
Only a few days away, to my alarming dismay, I realised that this flight had been scheduled for a route that would take us an added two hours than the expected. This left me perturbed, solely with anxiousness over my sister’s meal arrangement, particularly so, as it required a specific routine. The now five- hour flight schedule was going to disrupt that which I had thought to be a perfect setting.
However, we didn’t forget to join our hearts in prayer for journey mercies, while being chauffeured hurriedly as we were already running late. This whoosh and hurtle was truly not the best proposal, as it added to my already fretful uneasy nerves and to the most inopportune upside down plummet of my sister’s digestive system.
As bleak as my fears, the present situation loomed forebodingly. Now my already-not- so- fit-sister was going to be travelling a good seven to eight hours on an empty stomach. Banking fully, on my prayerful SOS, we kept up on course, though the schedule lagged by a half hour.
An hour and a half later after takeoff, had us ready and airborne once more for our second lap of the journey.
A young man, with a friendly attitude joined us at seat No. 5C. We smiled and managed to exchange friendly mumbled smiles. I was beginning to allow the strain of my nervous tension seep in and could do with quiet seconds of shut-eye.
Surmising my need for solitude, I think the ‘gentle’ fellow passenger also put his head into his hands, and went into a tackle at his pressure points.
A hot meal was served for which I was thankful, but chagrined that I could do nothing for my poor sister’s plight. I discreetly did my best in trying to deviate her mind off her hunger pangs.
The time as per my understanding said another 45 minutes to an hour before landing time. By now my good- mannered upbringing took over and I uttered a few lines of polite conversation which flowed on to make me realise that this co-traveller (who was homesick for his sweet wife and two adorable children), had unobtrusively been watching.
I was quite astounded when he said that he had said a prayer for me and my sister. As astonished as I was, it was touching when he mentioned that he had prayed for strength for the two of us.
Exceptionally blessed is how I feel for which I stand here in total appreciation. It isn’t very often that one gets to have a stranger say a prayer even without knowing anything about another.
This drives me to quote lines from a song I had once learned ( the highlighted lines are what I think make the connect) –
“Prayer is a soul’s sincere desire, uttered or unexpressed…. Prayer is the simplest form of speech….
Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
The falling of a tear
The upward glance of an eye
When none but God is near
The Saints in prayer appear as one
In word and deed and mind,
While with the Father and the Son
Their fellowship they find.”
The prayers sent up were heard and answered miraculously. Our expected delayed flight landed preceding schedule and my sister was her sprightly best even at ten hours of travelling with not much as a morsel in her. As for me, I gained all the more insight into surrendering not half, but my ALL on Him.
