Traffic along Imphal-Moreh road disrupted on Wednesday for the second consecutive day as protesters continued to block the highway section demanding the authorities to find out the cause of Sagolsem Prashanta’s death.
The 23-year-old was reportedly found committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at Tera Makhong in Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai under Lilong Police jurisdiction in Thoubal district early on Tuesday. JAC spokesperson Th Lamani Singh said, “The government should arrest all involved uptill then we will continue our agitation. We’ve also decided to boycott all Lilong-based social organisations, leaders and anti-social elements until all culprits are brought to book.”
Earlier, the committee oraganised a public meeting at Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai. The meet condemned the ‘murder’ of Prashanta and sought people’s support in mounting pressure on the government to arrest all culprits.
Meanwhile, locals of Nongmeibung in Imphal East continued to stage sit-in protest against the ‘murder’ of Bachaspatimayum Pittaranajan Sharma alias Korabin, 25.
The demonstration organised by the JAC was carried out near Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy after blocking all roads. The JAC also submitted a 6-point memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh.
The committee has demanded that all culprits should be arrested and punished to deliver justice in the ‘murder’ of the youth who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Kangkum village near India-Myanmar border, which is located under Kasom Khullen Police Station of Ukhrul district on April 24.
Pittaranjan went to Kasom Khullen on April 19 to meet his girlfriend. The girl hails from Kangkum where he was found dead. The cause of his death remains mystery.
