Impang bags first place in angling competition

Dimapur, April 23 (EMN): Impang Imchen of Dimapur District Angling Association bagged the first prize in the recently conducted 1st Nagaland Open Angling Competition that was held at Noune Resort Dimapur district on April 22.
This was informed by the general secretary of Anglers Association Nagaland, Ricky Ozukum. He further added that all together 147 participants including 19 from Assam took part in the competition.
“The second place went to Pranjal Das of All Assam Game Fishing Association and the third place was won by Lipoktemsu of Dimapur.
The top three walked away with a cash prize of Rs.50000/-, Rs.30000/- and Rs. 20000/- along with trophies and certificates.
The winners were judged on the basis of single biggest catch in weight.
The 10th position had to be shared by two anglers as both the catches were of the same weight of 0.805kg.”
“The competition was from held from 7a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The juries for the competition were Dr. Vimeso Kire, DFO- Dimapur, Neitho Kuotsu, Deputy Director, Department of Fisheries, Government of Nagaland and Phukato Sumi, President AAN.” the release stated
He further added that the closing function was graced by Neiphiu Rio, Lok Sabha MP as special guest where he shared his concerns for the destructive methods of fishing being practised in our state by use of chemicals and dynamites.
He further stated that angling is a new sport to Nagas and the rivers like Tizu has huge potential for the sport as well as for eco-tourism.
Additional Director of Fisheries C Imtitongzuk Longkumer also spoke during the function.
He mentioned that apart from culture production the department is also focusing to promote recreational fishery tourism in the state.
He also announced The Department of Fisheries, GON will make the Nagaland Open Angling Competition a yearly event.
The lone lady angler Atsibu Konyak from Dimapur was also felicitated by the organiser with a rod and reel.
The competition was organised by the Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN) and Sponsored by the Department of Fisheries Government of Nagaland, he added.
