Dimapur, June 11 (EMN): Minister for Forest Imkong Imchen has defended the chief minister of Nagaland, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, eulogizing SS Khaplang, the recently-demised chairman of the banned group NSCN (K).

Imchen issued a press release on Sunday declaring that he stood ‘behind every word of the statement of the chief minister.’

The minister referred to what it called the “reaction” of the “electronic media” to the condolence message issued by the chief minister following the demise of Khaplang, on June 9.

“I stand behind every word of the statement of the honourable chief minister. This statement of support is issued not that I am a minister in his cabinet but as a concerned Naga citizen. I could not understand why the national electronic media are so much against the statement of my honourable chief minister on this issue,” Imkong Imchen stated.

Imchen claimed that “everybody knows” that Dr. Shürhozelie is one of the torch bearers of regional politics in the state and has been witness to ‘many political upheavals over the last 60 years or more.’

“He is not the only regionalist politician in India but there are many others across India who have been championing the regional politics in their respective states,” the politician stated.

“They may be good in speaking English language or journalistic language but they just know nothing in conducting real politics.”

The press release added that ‘they’ don’t realise that ‘by their presentation they have utterly misled the nation’ and therefore “they are not worthy to be called members of the Fourth Estate community or fraternity.”

He claimed further that ‘those media persons have not served the nation but misled and put the Naga political issue in a wrong perspective.’
