Dimapur, July 23 : The Public Relations Office of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR) has issued clarifications that Friday’s legal notice was served to the president of Pochury Student’s Union for alleging that two students “were brutally gunned down by the 46th Assam Rifles ‘C’ Coy led by Major Surinder Singh and also injuring a lactating mother at around 6:30PM on July 16, 2015 at Wuzu village” as published in the local media.

The notice was not “for organizing the candlelight service in memory of the July 16, 2015 Wuzu killing on July 16, 2016 at Old MLA junction, Kohima,” the IGAR stated.
The clarification stated: “However the same has been reported as against the memorial in local newspapers on 23 July. It is once again reiterated that legal notice served to the president PSU is against the allegation on the 46th Assam Rifles ‘C’ Coy and its personnel when the matter is still under Judicial Inquiry Commission. In our opinion, therefore, the allegation is tarnishing the image of the said 46th Assam Rifles ‘C’ Coy. As such we are compelled to serve the Legal Notice to this effect.”
