If it is not the callous attitude?

To be indifferent to civil indecency contributes to barbarity. For the past one month or so there has been uncomfortable situation prevailing in the Mao-Southern Angami region. However, the state governments of Nagaland and Manipur and the Naga frontal organizations have failed to exhibit the required soothing hands. This has not only exposed our insipid society image but also gave a message to the world how insecure the common people are in our society. This scenario has also thrown up a debate asking the very purpose of the existence of the government and the Naga frontal organizations.Vegetables and other goods transported by the Mao people are being forcibly unloaded midway and thrown to rot in roadsides and shops run by the same community were ransacked in broad daylight but the concerned authorities would interpret the whole episode otherwise.
It is to be noted seriously that the bigger problem will begin when certain sections of Nagas after forced to emigrate from a Naga hub find a tolerant refuge elsewhere. If such eventuality crops up the very meaning of the Naga society will become a hollow expression. This should not be allowed to happen. There is no dearth of resources in the Naga society to prevent such eventuality. There is also not an iota of doubt about the importance of the ‘Naga system’ and its continuing relevance of accountability and participation. The Naga organizations/tribe hohos should uphold this unique system.
