IED explosion in Manipur, no casualty

Imphal, August 13 (EMN): A bomb believed to be a low intensity Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded at Kakwa Naorem Leikai in the outskirt of Imphal on Sunday.
The incident took place near a community hall of the said locality under Singjamei police station around 9.35am, sources said. However there is no report of any human casualty at the incident. The police are investigating as the reason behind the explosion could not be established immediately.
No armed groups have claimed responsibility for the day’s explosion till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile Manipur police teams across the state have been conducting a series of combing operations mostly in the valley districts including the greater Imphal areas as part of intensifying security measures in view of the Independence Day observation.
It may be mentioned that seven underground groups operating in the region had already called a total shutdown in the NE region from 6 am to 6 pm of August 15.
In another development, Veng Battalion under the aegis of Churachandpur Sector Assam Rifles of Red Shield Division and Churachandpur Police apprehended one active KNLF cadre involved in killing of late Lalmoi, General Secretary of KNLF along with arms and ammunition in an operation carried out on Tuesday, PIB (Defence Wing)said a press note.
The arrested KNLF cadre has been identified as Ngamminlen Haokip alias Diamond (23) son of late Jangpu Haokip of Moreh ward No 1, Tegnoupal district. One 9mm Pistol with magazine, 3 live rounds of 9mm and one Chinese Hand Grenade was also recovered from his possession. The cadre along with recovered arms and ammunition has been handed over to Churachandpur Police for further investigation, it added.
