IMPHAL, March 7
Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh here today flagged off improvement of Imphal-Kangchup-Tamenglong road to be taken up under the sponsorship of Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Addressing the function held at Kangchup Chiru in Imphal West, Ibobi Singh said peace is pre-requisite for all-round development of the entire Manipur inhibited by several ethnic communities.
The Manipur CM said under the Rs 1114.18 crore project, the 103.030 km-long Imphal-Kangchup-Tamenglong road will be developed into a world class one with Hindustan Construction Company Ltd being the work agency. He informed that the road improvement work will be completed within three and a half years’ time.
He emphasized the importance of improvement of the current law and order situation of the state which is a prior condition for development. Ibobi stated that development of tourist destinations can also bring development for the state.CM Ibobi appealed to people not to give any kind of disturbance to the work agency and the road development work. Progress of government projects are often delayed due to obstructions caused by militants and other civil socities in Manipur for one reason or another.
Ibobi expressed joy over selection of Imphal for developing it as a Smart City under Smart City Mission of the Government of India. He also expressed happiness that Imphal city was recently adjudged one of cleanest cities of the country securing 15th position among 300 cities.
Ibobi informed that construction of Imphal Ring Road will begin soon.
Attending the function, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said the British era Imphal-Kangchup-Tamenglong road will connect 19 villages and that the enter-district road will also be further developed as an enter-state route by connecting Haflong in Assam.
The function among others was attended by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh, IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip and Hill Areas Committee chairman Dr Chaltolien Amo.
