Hygienic slaughter-cum-retail outlet foundation laid at Jalukie

Dimapur, Jan. 5: Hygienic pig-cum-retail outlet for was laid at Jalukie town by H.K Hajong (IES) Project Director of North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP) on January 5 for Peren Pig Producer Organisation.
District project Management unit, Peren informed that a total of 1003 SHGs, 93 villages SHG federations and 104 Community Development groups were promoted by the project and 26 CDG implementing Community Development plan was shared. It also mentioned that the piggery cluster developed by the project in 5 villages under Peren block which started with 150 HH in 2015 had increased to 167 HH with 668 pig population, promoted by the project.Project Director NERLP, H.K Hajong narrated how the project had started the piggery cluster intervention and where an assessment was done to understand the gap for intervention. He said the key intervention point was to support the quality breed from research station ICAR Jharnapani, Medziphema State Veterinary Farm, which is suitable for local and promote breeding unit to have regular supply piglet to the district needs and beyond.
He also said it was to make vaccination and medication supply regular, to reduce mortality rate and promote a pig feed mill where farmers can avail low cost feed at their vicinity.
Hajong mentioned that the hygienic slaughter cum retail outlet is part of the implementation strategy, so that quality and hygienic pork is available in the district and also the excess could be supplied to other districts.
A short note on importance of piggery in Peren as livelihood option was shared by Dr. captian G. Dhanan Jaya Rao, the Dean of Veterinary College Central Agriculture University Jalukie.
The programme was chaired by Icaisuile, president of Honesty SHG Federation of Jalukie town Ward-m while invocation cum dedication prayer was pronounced by Monzeung Mpom, pastor of Jalukie town Local Baptist Church and key note address was delivered by Ruuvilie Kotsu, District Project Manager, NERLP, Peren.
