Guwahati, April 20 (PTI): A joint team of the Army and Assam police seized a huge cache of explosives, including gelatin sticks and detonators, from two persons in the state’s Kamrup District, a defence spokesman said today.
The joint operation took place at Boko late last night and it is suspected that the explosives were to be used for subversive activities, the spokesman said.
The explosives seized include 600 gelatin sticks and 400 detonators, he said adding the two men have been identified and detained.
Troops of the Red Horn division of Gajraj Corps and Assam police had launched the operation following specific information from Military Intelligence about movement of a large cache of explosives on Bongaigaon Guwahati national highway.
The security forces continuously tracked the vehicle’s movement and it was stopped near Boko. A search of the vehicle revealed 600 gelatin sticks and 400 detonators.
The operation was a part of relentless and coordinated operations by the Army along with the police to negate the nefarious disruptive designs of terrorists, the defence spokesman added.
