Hornbill river angling competition held

Dimapur, Dec. 5 (EMN): The river angling competition of the Hornbill Angling Festival 2018 was held on Dec. 3 last at Tsuza Eryu, Doyang, Wokha, stated an updated received here on Wednesday.

Aponthung Kikon emerged as champion of river event of the festival bagging a cash prize of INR 40,000 along with certificate. Zach Ovung who stood second walked away with a cash prize of INR 20,000 while Mhonjan Kikon received INR 10,000 as third place finisher. Other winners of the event were Nyanthung Odyuo, Aphamo Khuvung, Mar Longkumer, Mhonyamo Erui, Zuchobemo Ngullie, Imtiwapang, Surenthung Erui and Zuben Ezung.

All together 64 anglers from different parts of the state participated.

Pukhato Zhimomi, president ANN and Mhonthung Lotha, president DAWN delivered short speeches on the occasion.

According to the organisers, the river edition of the festival witnessed tourists coming in from as far as New Zealand to get a glimpse of the competition.

As part of Hornbill Festival 2018, the competition is being hosted by the Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN) in association with the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources and Department of Tourism.

Lake/pond angling competition of the festival will be held on Dec. 7 and 8 at Lavi Lake, Dimapur.

The total prize money to be won this year is INR 3.5 lakhs of which INR 1.5 lakhs is for river angling competition and INR 2 lakhs for lake/pond angling competition.
