NNC Ao region commemorates 67th Naga plebiscite day

Mokokchung, May 17 (EMN): Ao region of the Naga National Council (NCC) has observed the 67th anniversary of the Naga Plebiscite Day at Peace Camp, Yimyu (Khensa) in Mokokchung district on May 16.
The event was marked by releasing of a book titled “Atrocities- Struggle and sacrifices of the Aos in the freedom movement of the Nagas” authored by Rev. K Temjen, pastor of Khensa Baptist Church, in the presence of NNC veterans, representatives from six ranges and sympathisers.
The day did not only mark the commemoration of the Naga Plebiscite day but it was a day to pass down the factual history of the Naga freedom struggle to the younger generations on how Naga forefathers fought to defend their homeland from the occupational forces.
NNC vice president, T Senka Ao, who spoke on the topic “The foundation of Naga polity,” said Naga Plebiscite marked the beginning of Naga freedom movement to determine their own future as Naga territory remained independent and un-administered by any outside power since time immemorial.
He added that the 67th anniversary of the Naga Plebiscite Day was observed to mark the torment and atrocities committed by the India government against the Naga people.
He has also attributed to the emergence of many anti-social elements with ill intentions to topple the Naga freedom struggle in the middle of its journey for creating the current confusing situation that present Naga people are facing today.
Ao asserted that the Naga political history is well recorded in the annal of international history. He added that Naga Plebiscite- the foundation of Naga polity – is stainless and cannot be vanquish by fire, water or air because it is permanently stored in every Naga heart and soul.
He said Naga people were made to undergone much suffering in the hands of the Indian armed forces despite the Naga voluntary plebiscite which recorded at 99.9 percent declaring not to join India and tabled at international level.
While lamenting that today NNC has become like an orphan, its vice president said the hope for Naga still remains with the NNC. He added that all Naga political documents were been kept safe with NCC and the final verdict of the Naga would be determined by those documents.
The vice president further called upon all the Naga youth to reunite by joining NNC and rebuild the Naga nation.
During the programme, the NNC Ao Region unanimous resolved to construct a guest house at Peace Camp, Yimyu (Khensa).
Earlier, short speeches were delivered by representatives from six ranges and welcome address was said by M Akok from Akhoya village.
