Kohima, Oct. 26 (EMN): Here is a story of a young man who has achieved success, one which many from his age group can only dream about. His achievement by itself is not an extraordinary feat—it is the humility, sincerity and dedication behind his success is what is extraordinary. His is a story of lesson for all those people looking for shortcuts in this competitive world.
Drawing inspiration from his parents’ honesty and hard work, 26-year old Sedevilie Suohu from T Khel of Kohima village, and a peon’s son, has cracked the Nagaland Public Service Commission recently as class-I gazetted as SDO (CE) of the Public Health Engineering Department; and the topper among four candidates.
Suohu comes from a humble family who strongly believes in hard work and integrity. His father, Ketoulhouny Suohu is a serving peon with the directorate of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. His mother is a vegetable vendor at the Supermarket in Kohima.
Talking to Eastern Mirror, a shy and a gentle Suohu attributed his success to God and the rock-solid support of his family members, especially his mother and three sisters. He graduated from high school from Mezhür Higher Secondary School at Kohima; class-12 from Kohima Science College, Jotsoma; and engineering from the Vidya Pratishthan College of Engineering at Pune in 2015.
Suohu recounted the sacrifices he had had to make for leisurely activities when preparing for his examinations for one whole year in 2016. He said to have studied for 10-12 hours every day without much time for other activities. However, he brims with pride that the sacrifice didn’t go in vain. He cleared the examination in his first attempt.
With six siblings and the eldest in the family, Suohu helped his mother selling vegetables during his high school days after classes and during weekends. While in most cases today, friends of his age group would have been very embarrassed, the humility of this young man is still intact. Even these days he is often seen helping his mother at her business at the Supermarket.
The youth said God had been gracious to his family who always supported him in every step of his life despite the circumstances and problems along the way. Crediting his success to his parents, Suohu said, ‘My parents are my inspiration. It is because of them who I am today. Though they may not be well educated they are always supportive and have a supportive attitude towards life.’
The young man’s mother Visienuo Suohu, is brimming with pride at her son’s achievement. Yet, she said, she is humbled by the love and support of the people behind her son’s success.
‘Though we are from a very humble background, we have tried to give the best to our children,’ said the proud mother. She is delighted that his son is an obedient, humble and God-fearing person by the grace of God. Her ardent wish is that her son continues to uphold the values of hard work, sincerity, dedication and integrity both in his work and life.
Suohu thanked his parents for instilling the values of integrity in his life. He humbly said to give his best and be dedicated to his assigned work, serve the society according to his capacity and uphold ‘integrity’—the most important value in his life.
