HM urges churches to be agent of change

Kohima, May 21 (EMN): State home minister, Y Patton, called upon the church to play an active role in changing the election scenario in the State which is characterised by corruptions and have percolated down at the grassroot level.
Y Patton said this at the dedication programme of the Yimkha Baptist Church under Wokha district on May 21. Nagaland being dominated by 90% of Christians, he opined that church should first come forward and be an agent of change for clean elections.
The home minister observed that the church should not only focus on religious activities but also take up social issues which are corrupting the society today. Patton also called upon the citizens to unite and come together for development of the State by keeping asides differences of political affiliation.
Patton urged the people not to create enemies basing on affiliation to different political parties saying ‘election is just a norm of democracy.’
The church was dedicated by Rev. Nyanchumo Lotha, Executive Secretary LBES, while the sermon basing from the book of Isaiah 56:7 was delivered by, Rev. R Lotha, pastor of Tsungiki Baptist Church. Short message was also delivered by Yankithung Yanthan, former MLA.
